Kate Bach: Managing Director
I open up between 6 and 6.30 am, a good start to the beginning of the day arriving before the rest of the team walk through the door. It gives me time to catch up on my emails before any interruptions and the hustle and bustle of another busy day.
I think the delivery drivers find it useful that we are open early as most mornings I have a knock at the door by 7 am and take in a delivery. We have regular drivers so there is always a familiar face.
From about 7.40 am the team start coming through the door with a smile and a wave on their face, so glad that it is a Monday morning and it’s the start of the week doing a job that they love!! (haha).
“Happy staff happy workplace” that’s my motto!
I see Peter keeps photobombing my photos.
8 am prompt I take the Production Meeting with my two Managers and Supervisor. We discuss the plan for the week and prioritise the jobs to run on the Surface Mount Machines. It is vital I keep updated with the team and that production is keeping to their set schedule.
My Office Assistant makes me my first cuppa of the day which goes down a treat. I love it when she is in the office as she keeps me hydrated ?. She is an excellent present wrapper and errand-runner and is my little Elf at Christmas wrapping all my nieces and nephews presents. This definitely eases the stress on my part and lets me focus on the challenges that the days bring. She can be hired out at a good rate lol.
The next job on my list is to create Work Orders for the new purchase orders received over the weekend, then order in the components making sure that everything will be in on time for production to run, boards are ordered job done. The Work Order is passed to my Production Manager who will then start booking in the stock when arrives.
Over the last year suppliers stock holding of components has dramatically reduced and lead times increased so big jobs can take a few hours to the kit and that can be my morning gone!
Part of the weekly routine is invoicing customers, passing invoices for payment from suppliers, having meetings with customers about new projects and costing new jobs. It’s never-ending but we like to be busy.
It is surprising how much time all this paperwork and accounting takes and how quickly a day passes before I am saying goodbye to the team and off to do my gym class.
