Ryan N: Technical Specialist
After dropping the kids off at school my work day starts at 0900, as I walk in, I am greeted by Kate, Victoria and Woody from the main office.
I liaise with Will, the Production Manager, to see what has been planned to run for the week. Once we are on the same page I fire up the surface mount machine and check the pasting station. I initialise the machine and load up the right placement program.
Then it’s time to paste boards! Once boards are pasted I check them under the microscope to ensure 100% accuracy.
Pasted boards are then placed carefully into the machine to begin the placement process.
While the machine is running I get on with my other work which could include hand soldering, programming or testing boards. Hand soldering is my favourite because you have to be extremely particular ensuring that the component is flat to the board, correct orientation and the solder joint is up to specification.
I usually take my lunch at 1200. I like to have noodles as they are quick and easy to prepare. While eating I like to complete my daily Duolingo to keep my mind active.
After lunch the Vapor Phase gets turned on so it can warm up, ready for the boards that have been placed. Before the boards go in the Vapor Phase they are subject to a rigorous inspection under the microscope as mistakes are easily fixed here.
Once all the boards that I have ran have gone through the soldering process, they are counted up and recorded in the Work Order Diary so we know the production total for the day.
Now its time for a tidy up, shut down and cover the machines ready for a busy day tomorrow.
