Samantha: Production Manager

I often get to work about 7.45am as I am usually up and ready to start my day quite early. I say good morning to the other staff occasionally asking how their evening or weekend has been, having a quick catch up before we begin work.

I set up my desk with my home-made milky coffee that will last me through the day and put my lunch in the fridge.

I look at my daily planner to see what my tasks are for the day, which varies from pcb assembly to loom assembly. Lately I have been tasked with more ‘fiddly’ jobs which I don’t mind as it challenges me and keeps me improving on my skills.

One of the things I have done recently was a surface mount practice board which I had to make up via a written diagram with parts that we don’t normally use in production. It was a bit tricky to start with but once I figured it out the circuit worked and the LED’s lit up!  It was a very proud moment if I do say so myself and I kept it to show to my grandchildren.

I get very engrossed in my work and usually forget the time and before I know it lunch time has passed so I have a late break which makes the afternoon go by quicker. I do like to sit outside even in the rain just as long as the shelter from the building can keep me dry, I’m happy to be out in the fresh air.

The team gets on really well and we do have a lot of banter which is great, but of course we still get the job done.

After lunch I continue with my current jobs until end of day. Sometimes if the project isn’t fully complete when it comes to 5 o’clock I stay a few extra minutes to make sure I get the job done – I hate to leave a project incomplete! I can then go home happy and enjoy a well deserved glass of wine…or two 😉
