Victoria: Operations Manager

A Squared runs in my veins so it was only a matter of time before duty called and I joined the family business!

Actually, things were changing in my previous job and there was an opening here at A Squared where the former Operations Manager was relocating so it worked out quite well and the time felt right to don the green uniform.

Working under the strict guidance of the Managing Director, AKA BIG SISTER, I am learning the business and its daily runnings from my position of Operations Manager. 

I’m not a complete newbie to A Squared though … I have grown up alongside the family business. I remember when PCB’s used to be populated by hand in our front living room and I used to help cut caps and make heat sinks over the weekends for a little bit of pocket money.

Times have changed a hell of a lot and now the business has moved to an established unit, has taken on new customers and projects and has increased its team to nearly 20 to cope with the demand.  In the office we even have a fancy coffee maker now …. Which of course was the first thing I was trained on as the boss just loooooooooves her soya milk lattes.

There are some ‘unknowns’ in my new role as I haven’t been in an HR leading position before so there are things to learn, but I am up for the challenge and have been nerding up! I’m a sucker for paperwork and forms so I’m looking forward to what the job brings in this department.

Although based in the office I am still involved with the ongoings in production and the team. I help keep the managers up to date with things like changes in policies, checking over procedures, making sure the training is up to date, following up on what needs ordering, deliveries due – to go out, deadlines … They think I nag but I like to think of it as a gentle reminder … every hour … by email … or post-it note … until it’s done.

I organise ToolBox Talks at the end of every month which involves the whole A Squared team. This is where any issues, queries, notices, events coming up are spoken about between the team and everyone can share their comments.

The best part about being a part of the family business? I get to bring my pup to work with me!
