Emergency First Aid @ Work

Accidents and illness can happen at any time and being trained in first aid can help save lives and prevent minor injuries from becoming major ones.
Tonia and Victoria attended a 1 Day – Level 3 Emergency First Aid @ Work Course by M De C B Medical, lead by qualified First Aid Training Provider and a registered general nurse, Malcolm Bowen.

Preserve, Prevent, Promote

The aim of first aid is to give help to a sick or injured person until full medical treatment is available and by following the ‘3 P’s’ –

Primary Survey – DR ABC

They learnt how to navigate different scenarios effectively and administer life saving techniques.
Firstly surveying the scene to work out what has happened and if there could be any further danger, remembering that you can not help the casualty if you become hurt yourself! Then it’s getting in touch with the emergency services, relaying the information and starting the ‘Primary Survey’ …

The primary survey is a fast and systematic way to find and treat life-threatening conditions in priority order.
By using DR ABC (Doctor ABC) it prioritises the treatments to ensure oxygen gets into the blood and that the blood carries it to the brain for chance of survival.

Tonia and Victoria learnt how to further help the casualty if instances of seizures, choking, shock and how to treat different types of bleeding.
They covered a whole basis of medical emergencies, trauma, blood loss and wounds.

Although having the Emergency First Aid @ Work skills, we hope we never have to call on them whilst at work, but knowing we have two capable team members who can address incidents that might occur, is reassuring!
